HBS 2+2 = Great Idea
Harvard Business School announced a couple of weeks ago the establishment of its 2+2 program for college grads. College juniors, starting this year can apply by July to the program. Those accepted will complete their college degree, be eligible for fantastic career coaching, work for two years at companies that want to participate in this program and then join HBS' two-year MBA program.
The program gives HBS a first bite at those college students it is most interested in. It gives fortunate college students including those in the hard sciences, the opportunity to explore the infinite opportunities in business with career guidance and a guaranteed seat at one of the top business schools in the world. It also ensures that these early career applicants will arrive at business school with more to contribute than if they had came straight from undergrad and that they will be better able to assume significant responsibility when they leave HBS. The news release, web site, and articles about this program as well as my correspondence with the HBS admissions office all evince HBS's interest in participants from a wide variety of disciplines and many different undergrad colleges.
If you are a top student and leader in your school who wants to explore business as a means of achieving your life's goal and to whom HBS's case method and general management approach appeal, I urge you to sign up for more information about the program. Then decide whether you want to apply. You have very little to lose at this point and an awful lot to gain.
