US News Best Law Schools of 2022

If law school is in your future, now is the time to check out U.S. News’ 2022 Law School rankings. This year U.S. News looked at 20 indicators (up from 13 last year) to determine the overall rankings and 13 law school specialty rankings. The data came from 193 law schools that are fully accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). Schools were graded on how successfully their graduates were placed, the resources afforded to their faculty, the academic accomplishments of entering students, and opinions of law schools, lawyers, and judges on the overall quality of the programs. Any law schools that were not accredited and fully approved by the ABA were not ranked.

The data received was standardized so that each school’s score was compared with all the other schools. The standardized scores were weighted so that the top school received 100, with the other schools receiving their percentage of the top school. Then the schools were ranked in descending order based on their scores.

Highlights of the 2022 law school rankings

Eight of the top law schools have maintained their rankings this year. Yale Law School, Stanford University, and Harvard University remain the top three. University of California, Berkeley moved from a tie for ninth place to holding it alone, knocking out Northwestern University (Pritzker). Duke University, a newcomer to the Top Ten, tied with the University of Michigan at number ten so there are actually 11 schools in the Top Ten.
