Listen to the show!Dr. Rishi Desai believes that people should teach what they are good at and study in the way they learn best. And here’s the cool part: His work makes that possible.

Tune in to our conversation with the doctor who is changing the face of medical education!

Rishi’s Story (2:38)

Commiserating with a self-conscious pediatric patient, spending months writing a paper that may never be read, and posting YouTube videos as a hobby solidified Rishi’s path: Researching is out; educating is in.

The Kahn Academy  (8:07)

The AAMC wanted to help level the playing field so that all applicants will have a fair chance at acing the new MCAT, and the Kahn Academy collection of MCAT instructional videos was born.

Chris Is Taking the MCAT. How can Kahn Academy Help? (11:06)

Kahn Academy’s MCAT collection is intended to be a supplemental tool for MCAT prep. When Chris, hypothetical applicant, encounters a subject she is having difficulty mastering, she can just click over to Kahn Academy for clarification.

Osmosis: The Learning Style of the Future (12:33)

The scoop on how this fascinating learning platform for med students combines it’s knowledge of what you are studying and how you learn best to create a custom experience that will help you attain and retain information. This is amazing!

Why Isn’t This Part of The Med School Curriculum? (22:40)

The revolution has already begun! Rishi anticipates that more and more programs will jump on the bandwagon and incorporate Osmosis in their curriculums. The goal is to turn in-person class time into an opportunity to focus on all things teamwork and communication and related. The didactic aspects of school will be personalized and optimized experiences on the Osmosis platform.

Osmosis Moving Forward (26:29)

The infrastructure is in place, and the need is there. On the horizon: Expect to see Osmosis for nursing students, dental students, and premeds.

Attributes and Skills that Premeds Need (29:12)

A common thread among successful people is the ability to be true to themselves. Lots of advice givers will try to tell you what to do and how to do it, but the folks who make it are the ones who march to their own drummer while looking to grow and learn. Want to be happy? Know what drives you and make your own choices.

Rishi’s Plans for the Future (32:50)

Right now Rishi can’t wipe the smile off his face. The day that changes is the day he’ll move on.

What do Stanford Med Students Have in Common (35:57)

Of course, all Stanford students have good grades, MCATs, and brains. The winning combo of traits shared by those who rise to the top is insatiable need to best themselves balanced by a deep sense of humility.

The Unasked Question Rishi Would Like to Answer: How Did Your Personal Life Influence Your Professional Life?  (39:17)

Rishi reflects on how Little Rishi was molded into the successful Big Rishi: His immigrant parents influenced, supported, and encouraged him to plow his way through school. Now Osmosis can do the same for students who don’t have that advantage.
