3 “Spring Week” Tips for MBA Applicants [Transcript]
Hello, MBA applicants, welcome to Accepted. I’m Consultant Michelle Stockman. Now, many of you are nearing the end of what is a marathon MBA application cycle, and now the deadlines are coming fast and furious. And for you, this should now be sprint time. You’ve paced yourself, you’ve gotten yourself prepared, but now you really want to push really hard and do your best effort to get things through to the finish line.
So I’d like to share with you three tips that I have for how you can really make your application shine.
First, take a look again at your career vision.
I often tell my MBA clients that I work with, they should imagine they’re on the stage at a TED Talk and you want to inspire the audience with what might be possible in your field, what innovations you might want to bring. Also, it should bridge to your past. It should have something to do with your past experience. And it’s also great to set a milestone that you can reach in the next five to 10 years. If you don’t think that your goal really meets that standard, I can absolutely help you out with that.
Second, transitions within your essay.
Your job is to guide the audience through your story. They aren’t the ones that are supposed to make sense of how the paragraphs all fit together. And oftentimes I find that’s missing when I receive drafts from my clients. So that’s something I can help you do so that it’s a pleasure or to read your essay and whoever’s reading it isn’t hunting and pecking and trying to make sense of what you’re trying to say.
Third, dumb mistakes.
Now, I bet all of you have tried to maximize your time and you’ve developed some essays for one school that might work for another school with a little more research to make sure that they match that school. Sometimes mistakes come in, you might have forgotten and left the name of the old school in, and then it gets submitted to a different school. Doesn’t look good. So that’s something I can also help you with, going through fine tuning, finding the mistakes, making sure you’ve got a perfect draft to push through the finish line and apply to your dream schools.
If you’d like to work with me, these are things that we can absolutely do within the time that’s left. Drop me a line at www.accepted.com/michelle. I’d be happy to work with you as long as I have room in my roster and help you really submit something that shines. Good luck.
