There they go again. H/S/W bashing consultants. Yawn.
In "Contentious Consultants," The Economist, takes a more balanced approach than did the earlier Boston Globe article on admissions consultants, but I still find what to take issue with.
- The article says, "Admissions consulting firms are also trying to make their business seem more respectable" by participating in a GMAC conference session on MBA admissions consultants. Nonsense. The goal for the session as stated in the proposal, which I authored: "Attendees will understand what admissions consultants do and the positive role they play in the admissions process." The purpose of the session is educational and informational. My co-panelists — Graham Richmond of Clear Admit, Ricardo Betti of Empresarial, and Maxx Duffy of Maxx Associates — all share that goal.
- The article quotes both Derrick Bolton and Thomas Caleel. Both gentlemen are entitled to their opinion, even if they base it on ignorance and misinformation. But their words would reflect better on them and their schools if they educated themselves about their topic before speaking to the press.
I hope they will come to our session at the San Francisco GMAC conference. In the meantime, perhaps they would like to read what admissions consultants really do.
