"My Job: Managing B-School Admissions" in the CollegeJournal describes the background and work of Rosemaria Martinelli, formerly admissions director at Wharton and not at the University of Chicago. It is worthwhile for MBA applicants to read this article. Some of you look down on adcom members, feeling that are lightweights. Some of you take a casual approach to the application process. Wrong and wrong again.
If you read this article, you will see that admissions committee members are professionals, usually highly educated, intelligent, and dedicated. Yes, they do have a sense of humor about their job, and some of your gaffes give them a good laugh, but they, like Ms. Martinelli, work very hard. It is foolish to waste their time or treat the job they take seriously with flippancy. Treat them like the intelligent, busy professional you want to be come.
