The Association of American Medical Colleges today announced that it projects medical school enrollment will grow by 17% in the next five years. Other points to note:
- 71 U.S. medical schools plan to expand their class sizes in that period.
- This increase still only meets roughly half the anticipated need for physicians by 2030, but is "a step in the right direction."
The AAMC last year recommended a 30% increase in the number of US med school students to meet the future needs of the growing and aging US population.
