Ranking Grad Programs: A New Approach

Two PhD candidates have ranked PhD programs in political science according to the programs' success in placing new PhD’s. in academic positions. Interestingly this new ranking does not correlate with traditional reputational rankings or even rankings based on research publication and citation.

So how would you use these finding? It would probably depend on whether you are independently wealthy and interested in study of political science for its own sake, or if you wanted to maximize your chances of getting an academic position at a top university. Or perhaps (and best)  you would use the data from both surveys, but weigh far more heavily the results of an intensive information gathering campaign you conducted on the programs that seriously interested you.
