No Slack for Accepted Slackers
This is a sad story. The Los Angeles Times reports in "No Slack for the Slackers" that college admissions offices are getting tough with sufferers of senioritis, that malady of epidemic proportions that strikes high-achieving high school seniors when accepted to their favorite schools. It causes them to.... stop studying.
Barring extenuating circumstances, schools have little sympathy and are exercising their right to rescind offers of admission.
- A few schools report that they dump as much as 2% of their entering class.
- UCLA reports that it expects to withdraw roughly 90 offers of admissions (out of a class of 4600).
- From the article it appears that the public universities and colleges are stricter than the private institutions.
