Academic Salaries Up
If you are aiming to enter the Ivory Towers of academia, I've got good news for you. Salaries are up. You can find the details in "Faculty Salaries up 3.8%" in Inside Higher Ed. The College and University Professional Association for Human Resources provided the data as part of its annual survey of academic salaries.
For those of you who seek scintillating statistics and tidbits, here are a few:
- Law, engineering and business professors earn the most at both public and private institutions with law profs topping the chart at $121,301 average salary annually.
- Humanities professors earn significantly less with a full professor of English language and literature bringing home on average $73,693 annually, almost $50,000 less per year.
- The distinction holds, although less dramatically, for associate and assistant professors.
- In many disciplines, the study found that new assistant professors are earning more than assistant professors on average because of the competition to attract new talent.
