Princeton Freezes Tuition
Princeton University announced a highly unusual freeze in its tuition for next year. 2007-08 will be the first year since 1967-68 that Princeton has not raised tuition. However, the news is not all rosy at this particular Ivy League campus: undergraduate room and board rates will increase a stiff 4.2 percent.
Will other elite schools follow suit? One is going in the opposite direction: Grinnell College has approved a "typical" tuition increase of 4-5% for current students and a whopping 15% increase for new students. Thus incoming freshman will pay at Grinnell what others have been paying at elite schools around the country. Grinnell had been charging significantly less than Princeton and the Ivies up until now.
