The Counsel of Graduate Schools announced today the results of Phase II of its International Graduate Admissions Survey: Applications and Offers of Admission ."  The conclusion summarizes the report well:

"The primary findings of this report show that between 2005 and 2006: 1) final international applications received increased 12%; 2) offers of admission to international students increased 12%; 3) offers of admission increased for India, China, and Korea; 4) offers of admission to international students increased most for the fields of engineering and business, but decreased for humanities and social sciences. The report also showed that responding institutions have remained approximately the same in terms of the selectivity in admitting international students and that responding institutions perceive the quality of admits to be about the same as last year. Finally, the study indicates a continuing commitment of resources by U.S. graduates schools to international outreach, with over three quarters of the respondents reporting new initiatives." 

A few statistical highlights:

• Application volume soared 19% from China and 26% from India between 2005 and 2006.
• International applications to business school increased by 16% between 2005 and 2006.
• International applications to engineering programs grew by 9% between 2005 and 2006.
