The New York Times published an article last weekend examining the value of an MBA with a special focus on the Harvard MBA. "Was Earning that Harvard MBA Worth It?" explores different perspectives on the value of an MBA -- pro and con. (I have analyzed several MBA critiques earlier in this blog. See references to this post for details) The article focuses on Adam Richman, HBS MBA '96, and HBS Professor Monica C. Higgins, who "decided to track a core group of his Harvard classmates, to converse with them about their personal and professional aspirations, and then to revisit them every five years until 2026."  They are also filming their research and reporting on the how this select group of 10 along with roughly 130 others who responded to a survey view their MBA experience every five years through 2026.

I found most intriguing the top current values of these HBS alumni:

1. Balance,
   
2. Financial security
   
3. Corporate power or influence

Professor Higgins theorizes, that "They seemed to have come to realize that certain things are precious in life, not the least of which is family." 

Although there is little that is earth-shattering in this article and no stats on their current earnings, it is an interesting read.
