Colleges See Decline in SAT Scores

The College Board has acknowledged a decline of 4-5 points in this year's average SAT score, but many colleges and high school are observing larger declines. According to Inside Higher Ed and correspondence that I have seen among admissions professionals, scores have dropped more sharply despite the fact that other measures (like GPA) of applicant quality have increased.

The College Board has repeatedly reassured the public and the colleges that scores for the new test were comparable to the old test. The colleges are seeing average differences of 10-20 points.
