College Admissions Grabbag

A couple of items of note for college applicants:

  • Inside Higher Education reports on a small, but growing trend at top colleges: Optional SAT score submission.  According to the article there are 24 testing-optional institutions on the U.S. News list of the top 100 national liberal arts colleges -- an increase of 7 in approximately 18 months.
  • A variety of sources are reporting an increase incidence of "double depositing" among applicants accepted at colleges. The title of the NY Times article, "Admissions Officials Lament Practice of Signing On With More Than One College" pretty much tells the story. College admissions officials and waitlisted applicants both hate the practice with a passion. If caught, accepted students risk having their offers of admission withdrawn.
