College Admissions Scene

CNN's article "Consultants replacing high school counselors" occasional descends into hyperbole and sensationalism, but overall is a fair description of the role of admissions consultants in the  college admissions scene. Inside Higher Ed provides a much more vitriolic, negative, and inaccurate view of college admissions and the role of consultants in "Reforming Selective College Admissions" by Deirdre Henderson, a clearly disgruntled parent who seems to blame a slew of institutions and parties while placing minimal responsibility on parents and applicants.  As a parent of five children who range in age from 17 - 25 and an admissions consultant for the last ten years, pushy parents do far more damage than glossy brochures, the rankings, merit aid, and admissions consultants combined. She of course takes aim at the latter.
