College Journal's "Poor Writing Skills Top MBA Recruiters' Gripe" provides insight into recruiter thinking. Since most people attend business school to make themselves more marketable in the job market, it's a great idea to know what recruiters are looking for.
A few colleagues and I have started to prepare for the panel on admissions consultants at the GMAC conference in June, and the benefits provided by the admissions consulting industry are on my mind. While I know that no one hires Accepted.com or our competitors to learn how to write, many clients feel they receive a writing education by working one-on-one with our wordsmithing pros. I'm proud of that, and our panel will bring it out in SF.
The grade disclosure debate, which ended at HBS with the school deciding to allow voluntary disclosure, has received attention again in Harvard Business School's Working Knowledge. Jim Heskett discusses "Should More Transparency Extend to Education for Management?" You can also read his readers' opinion on GND. My quick perusal shows most in academia defending non-disclosure, and most in the business world advocating transparency. Wait a second. Isn't it usually the other way around?
