Med School Application Volume Rises

The AAMC announced a marked increase in medical school enrollment and applications in a press release issued October 25.  Key points:

  •  "The 2005-2006 entering class is the largest on record, with more than 17,000 first-time enrollees in the nation's 125 medical schools, a 2.1% increase over the 2004 total."
  • The total number of medical school applicants for the 2005-2006 school year increased by 4.1%  to 37,364.
  • Significant increases in applications from Hispanics and Asians contributed to the overall increase in applications.
