Record Jump in Applications for Cornell Law

In the Great Recession’s wake, many law schools across the country have experienced a rise in application volume this year, and the number of students taking the LSAT has risen 20 percent. However, Cornell Law School had an unprecedented jump of 52.5 percent in applications from last year by its Feb. 1 deadline, according to the Chronicle Online in Cornell Law School applications surge 52.5 percent.” Cornell received more than 6,000 applications, a record number for the school.

Some attribute this eye-popping increase to the school’s academic strengths, new faculty hires, prominent alumni, and diverse student body. Plus, in this economic climate, Cornell’s small-town location (and cost of living) could be appealing to prospective students.

Despite the influx of applicants, the law school will retain the same selection process and small class size, striving for an incoming class of between 180 and 210 students.
